Dr. Chaz Aguado is an active performer and educator serving Frederick, Baltimore, and Washington Counties in Maryland, as well as Northern Virginia. He began studying guitar at age 12 under the guidance of Aaron Jay Myers. While he is now primarily a classical guitarist, his musical journey began with the electric guitar. As a teenager, he was heavily influenced by renowned rock and metal guitarists including John Petrucci, Zakk Wylde, Slash, and James Hetfield. Through his studies, he developed a deep appreciation for the classical guitar, inspired by the artistry and virtuosity of performers such as Manuel Barrueco and David Russell. His growing passion for music ultimately led him to pursue a lifelong career dedicated to performance and education.
Dr. Aguado holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Shenandoah Conservatory, a Master of Music degree from the University of Denver, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Towson University. Since 2022, he has served as Chair of Guitar Studies and Classroom Guitar Instructor at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, Virginia. He has also been a Classical Guitar Instructor at Frederick Community College since 2018.
In addition to his work in secondary and higher education, Dr. Aguado has maintained an active private teaching studio since 2016. He teaches a wide range of styles, including classical, rock, blues, country, and metal guitar. His principal teachers and mentors include Matthew Palmer, Troy King, Laura Husbands, Jonathan Leatherwood, Julian Gray, and Ricardo Iznaola.
As a performer, Dr. Aguado appears regularly in recital halls, concert venues, and chamber music settings. He is equally at home performing at weddings, private events, wineries, dinner parties, and intimate salon concerts. In addition to his work as a soloist, he frequently collaborates with vocalists, cellists, violinists, flutists, and other chamber musicians. He believes that every performance opportunity—regardless of venue size—offers valuable artistic growth and contributes to his continued development as a musician.
